Buford Highway Dreams

Commissioned as a part of Atlanta Opera's 96-Hour Opera Project, this scene was written in collaboration with Jorge Sosa and was intended to uplift and celebrate the community of Buford Highway in Atlanta.

In this scene we specifically took inspiration from the life of Guillermo Sesario, a Mexican migrant who gradually lost his sight in adulthood, but in his darkest hour took inspiration from the Korean martial art form of Taekwondo and eventually became a Taekwondo master. You can learn more about Guillermo's amazing work in the community here.

A huge thanks to story partner We Love Buford Highway for recommending this amazing story. You can learn more about the development of this project on the Voices of a Highway podcast!
